Academic Success Learning Center
The Academic Success Learning Center offers the following standardized tests:
ACT, CLEP, DSST, and MAT.
All tests are given in the Testing Center in the Hope Barber Shull Academic Resource Center, 3rd floor.
Freed-Hardeman is an approved residual ACT testing center. Tests are given to prospective students for admission purposes only. A student must have applied for admission before taking the Residual ACT. Scores from a residual testing center may be used only at the institution where the test is given. A student is allowed to take the residual ACT twice for the purpose of admission to the university. Residual testing may not be used for athletic eligibility or any scholarship program.
The ACT is also given to currently enrolled students who need to gain entrance into the teacher education program. Unofficial scores are mailed to the student as soon as possible following testing.
Students must wait 60 days before retaking the residual ACT. Testing fee is $100 and is payable in cash, credit or debit card at the time of testing.
The CLEP is used for college equivalency credits and is administered on an appointment basis. There are 33 subject exams administered on the computer, each with a 90 minute time limit. The scores are available to candidates upon completion of the exam. Candidates should check with their adviser or the institution granting credit to determine the specific CLEP policy, as each institution determines which exams are accepted and what constitutes a passing score.
How to register for a CLEP exam:
- Create an account at clep.collegeboard.org
- Locate the appropriate test and complete the payment process. Print the registration ticket. This form is required when the exam is taken.
- Contact the Freed Hardeman Testing Center and schedule an appointment (Monday – Friday 8:00am – 3:00pm)
Freed Hardeman students are charged a $50.00 administrative fee to take the exam, payable in cash, credit or debit card at the time of testing. Non-FHU students are charged $60.00 administrative fee.
The DSST (formerly known as DANTES) is a credit-by-examination testing program to measure knowledge in a particular subject area. There are 37 test titles in a wide range of college-level academic, technical, and business subjects. Each test is administered on the computer. Each institution may determine its passing score requirements for the DSST. The DSST testing fee is $100. It must be paid on the day of testing with a debit or credit card. The FHU administrative fee is $50 for FHU students and $60 for non-FHU students and is payable in cash, credit or debit card.
