Henderson, Tennessee – (Jan. 18, 2024) – Freed-Hardeman University is pleased to announce the Christian Ministers Discount, an initiative that honors and supports the children of full-time Church of Christ pulpit and youth ministers. This program reflects FHU’s commitment to recognizing the dedication of ministry leaders and making higher education more accessible to their families.

The Christian Ministers Discount program provides a significant financial benefit, offering up to $5,000 in annual savings to students who are the children of full-time Church of Christ pulpit or youth ministers. Full-time ministry, in this context, is defined as a 40-hour work week in a paid position. Ministers must have been employed full-time as a minister for at least five years before becoming eligible for the discount.

To apply for this discount, students are required to complete the Christian Ministers Discount Form, which must be signed by two elders from the employing congregation. The form should be submitted to the Office of Student Financial Services by May 15 to secure the discount for the upcoming academic year. Recipients must be enrolled full-time, live in university housing and participate in a meal plan.

The Christian Ministers Discount can be combined with institutional scholarships (excluding discounts and athletic grants-in-aid), providing students with savings of up to $15,000 annually on their education.

In discussing the funding for this scholarship, FHU President David R. Shannon said, “We give thanks and glory to God for the heart and generosity of the anonymous donor who has funded most of this discount. He loves the Lord and His Kingdom and wants to support ministering families who give so much of themselves. He has told us that he hopes each recipient’s family will pause to give thanks and glory to God, since all good gifts come from Him. Many ministers’ families have received $20,000 per child during four years of college; there is no way to measure the positive impact this has made on these families.”

FHU invites students who meet the criteria to apply for the Christian Ministers Discount, a program that not only eases the financial burden of education but also acknowledges the vital role of ministry leaders in our communities.

The mission of Freed-Hardeman University is to help students develop their God-given talents for His glory by empowering them with an education that integrates Christian faith, scholarship and service. With locations in Henderson and Memphis, FHU offers associates, bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctoral degrees.
