Henderson, Tennessee – (May 14, 2024) – Freed-Hardeman University alumni from the classes of 1974 and before are invited to return to their alma mater June 12-14 for the 2024 Golden Year Reunion, hosted by the FHU Office of Alumni Engagement.

“Golden Year Reunion is one of the most special and important events we host annually,” Chris Ramey, director of alumni engagement, said. “No matter the decade alumni attended FHC [former name of FHU], some common themes run like a vein through them all – precious memories, priceless friendships, faith-building experiences and life-changing years. Our honor is to provide the avenue for alumni to return to ‘their’ FHC and reconnect with the people and places that meant so much to them.”

The Golden Year Reunion event will begin with an optional day trip to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, home of iconic music, great food and Southern hospitality. The visit will begin at the historical FAME recording studio, where FHU parent and 8 Track Entertainment Vice President Jeff Goodwin will lead a behind-the-scenes tour. Following a stop at the local eatery Mama Jean’s, participants will also pay a visit to Ivy Green, the homeplace and museum celebrating author, educator and advocate Helen Keller. Upon their return to Henderson, all attendees will pay a visit to Chickasaw State Park for dinner and worship at Sagamore Lodge Wednesday evening.

Alumni activities over the next two days will include special chapel and singing services, tours of newly renovated Hall-Roland Hall, a lecture on biblical archaeology by Dr. Jonathan Moore, a session on alumni travel opportunities, receptions for Freed-Hardeman classes of 1964 and 1974, a picture slideshow, memory sessions and special evening entertainment.

“Our golden alumni are an incredibly vital part of our school’s history and identity,” FHU President David R. Shannon said. “Their love for Freed-Hardeman creates a beautiful and powerful intersection of past, present and future. They believe in FHU’s mission, cherish the memories and desire for future students to experience this special place. The icing on the cake is how much fun Golden Year Reunion is! The time is filled with deep love, laughter and gratitude.”

While this year’s reunion will specially recognize the anniversary classes of 1974, 1969, 1964, 1959, 1954 and 1949, every student from the class of 1974 or earlier is welcome. Those wishing to participate are encouraged to visit FHU.edu/GYR to register online, view a full schedule and submit a memory form to the alumni engagement staff.
