A Beam of Tradition and Progress as Freed-Hardeman University Marks a Major Milestone with Historic Topping Out Ceremony
Henderson, Tennessee – (May 14, 2024) – In a ceremonial act rich with history and community spirit, Freed-Hardeman University marked a significant construction milestone this week. The final steel beam – signed by students, faculty, staff, local dignitaries and neighbors – was hoisted into place atop the new Jones Family Dining Hall, soon to house a Chick-fil-A® restaurant. This beam represents not just the completion of a structure but the strengthening of community bonds and the university’s enduring commitment to growth and service. FHU President David R. Shannon opened the ceremony by thanking God, as the builder of all things, for providing the blessing to celebrate. The dining hall is expected to be completed by November 2024 and will open in January 2025.
Freed-Hardeman University’s Honors Students Experience the Culture of New Orleans

The trip was offered as an educational experience to Honors Council members as well as senior students in the Honors College.

An Afternoon Steeped in Elegance: FHU Associates Host A Victorian Tea Party
Henderson, Tennessee – (May 7, 2024) – The Freed-Hardeman University Associates are once again inviting women and girls to don their finest summer dresses and perfect their pinky raises for “a unique event for tea lovers everywhere.” A Victorian Tea Party, hosted by the FHU Associates, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 12-4 p.m., at the historic Hardeman House at 307 White Avenue. Tickets may be purchased at fhu.edu/teaparty, and all proceeds will go towards FHU student scholarships.
FHU College of Business Celebrates Student Achievements with Chapel, Luncheon
Henderson, Tennessee — (May 2, 2024) — FHU College of Business held its annual Senior Awards Chapel and Luncheon to celebrate the academic achievements of students as they prepare for post-graduate life. Ten seniors and one graduate student were recognized for their work in several disciplines including accounting, marketing, management, business analytics, finance, financial planning and sport administration. In addition, six undergraduates received the Sewell Scholarship, which awards a rising sophomore, junior or senior with a minimum 3.0 grade point average with a $5,000 scholarship ($2,500 a semester). Recipients must demonstrate leadership, integrity and professionalism. “Deciding these awards is never easy,” Dr. Matt Vega, dean of the College of Business, said. “We’re so thankful for all of your efforts. We know whatever your next chapter is, you will not only glorify us, but you will glorify God.”

Senior Students Chosen to Represent University as Mr. and Miss FHU
Henderson, Tennessee – (April 26, 2024) – After a vote by the student body, Freed-Hardeman University announced the winners of Mr. and Miss FHU 2024 during a special chapel presentation held Thursday, April 25. Will Rawson, from Alamo, Tennessee, was named Mr. FHU, while Anniston McCall, from Winter Garden, Florida, was named Miss FHU.
